- Lately, I've been losing drives on my C=64c. Regardless whether or not
- the machine's bad, the drives all display common errors. These drives are:
-
- 1571, 1541-II, and a 1581.
-
- Basically everything's fine until I try to read any disk. I turn the
- computer on and the drives cycle for a second like normal, but if I try
- to get a directory or run a program on a disk (that will read fine on
- a working drive) it starts to access and then does the normal
- chugga-chugga or flashing light. Then the 64 says "file not found".
- This will even happen if there's no disk in there and the drive is open.
- I can understand it telling me "device not ready", but this is pretty obsurd.
-
- Can anyone thing of what may be at fault here? Is it possible that some
- related chips went bad? The 1571 was working fine one morning and then
- started to die suddenly (it wouldn't let me access it at first, then I'd
- hook it up to another Commodore 64 and it would, then it just simply
- stopped reading right).
-
- Thanks for ANY advice.
